Buddha

Are you man or god?
I am awake.
A white elephant
touched my mother’s womb
with a lotus bloom.
A sage said,
“He will tread the path
to enlightenment
and will find
truth ineffable.”

Having taken the journey
he teaches that
the path is important
not the destination.
He is a physician of souls
and understands suffering
with the Four Noble Truths.
Everything is impermanent.
The only constant
is change.
By self-examination you will find
there is no self.

Subject focuses on object
and comes to a place of one pointedness.
The thought that holds the object—goes—
and rapture remains.
Rapture goes—
and concentration remains.

I have looked over
oceans of tears
to re-death
and re-birth.
